Chronicles of the Tour in USA
At the 2024 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, one voice stood out for its clarity, passion, and commitment to youth empowerment—Victory Ashaka. As a member of the Young People’s Action Team of UNICEF Generation Unlimited, Ashaka played a pivotal role, using the power of spoken word poetry with youth advocacy to highlight the urgent need for investment in Africa’s young population.
Ashaka’s first major engagement took place at the “Invest in Africa Youth Forum,” hosted by UNICEF, where he delivered a spoken word masterpiece. Through his poetry, Ashaka captured the aspirations, struggles, and resilience of Africa’s youth, by using his words to paint a vivid picture of a generation that refuses to be held back by adversity. His words resonated deeply with the audience, which included international policymakers, development leaders, and fellow youth advocates.
Afterwards, he took the stage, using poetry as a medium for advocacy at the prestigious Global Leadership Council of UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited, co-hosted by the government of Canada and the state of Qatar. The event was held at the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations. The council, which brings together influential leaders from around the world, including UNICEF officials, prime ministers, ambassadors, executive directors and government representatives, was the perfect setting for Ashaka’s message on youth empowerment.
In addition to his work as a spoken word poet, Victory Ashaka played a critical role as a spokesperson at the event “Time to Act: Preparing Youth for Work in an AI-Powered World,” hosted by UNICEF Generation Unlimited, Accenture, and Microsoft. In this capacity, Ashaka represented the voices of millions of young people navigating the complexities of a rapidly changing job market.
